ময়ূর দ্বীপ বা উমানন্দ মন্দির (পর্যটকদের আগ্রহের জন্য প্রায় অজানা জায়গা)

উত্তর-পূর্ব ভারতের রাজ্য আসামের গুয়াহাটি শহর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত ব্রহ্মপুত্র নদীর মাঝখানে সবচেয়ে ছোট নদী দ্বীপ ,ময়ূর আইল্যান্ড বা উমানন্দ  দ্বীপ। ব্রিটিশরা এর কাঠামোর জন্য দ্বীপটির নাম পিকক দ্বীপ রেখেছিল।

উমানন্দ মন্দির গৌহাটি থেকে একেবারে ব্রহ্মপুত্র নদীর মাঝখানে ময়ূর দ্বীপে অবস্থিত , ১৭ শতকের শেষের দিকের  শিব মন্দির। এটি বিশ্বের বৃহত্তম বাসিন্দা রিভারাইন দ্বীপ হিসাবে পরিচিত। ব্রহ্মপুত্রের তীরে যে দেশীয় নৌকা পাওয়া যায় তারা দর্শনার্থীদের দ্বীপে নিয়ে যায়।

যে গুয়াহাটি যান, তিনি এই মন্দিরটি দেখতে কখনও ভুলে যাবেন না। ব্রাহ্মপুত্র নদীর মাঝখানে ময়ূর দ্বীপে উমানন্দ মন্দিরটি অবস্থিত। যেহেতু মন্দিরটি ব্রহ্মপুত্র নদীর কেন্দ্রে অবস্থিত, তাই কেবল ফেরি বা মোটর লঞ্চেই এটি অ্যাক্সেস করা যায়। শিবকে উত্সর্গীকৃত ভাস্কর্য এবং খোদাইয়ে সূর্য, গণেশ এবং দেবী নামে অন্যান্য দেবতাদের চিত্রিত করা হয়েছে। মন্দিরের দেয়ালগুলি বিস্ময়করভাবে খোদাই করা এবং ভাস্কর্যযুক্ত, যা অতীতের মানুষের কারুকার্যের প্রমাণ ।

উমানন্দ মন্দিরে পৌঁছতে নৌকায় করে নদী পার হতে হয়। ফেরি এবং স্টিমার দিয়ে এটি গুয়াহাটি এবং উত্তর গুয়াহাটি থেকে পৌঁছানো যায়। এই নৌকা পরিষেবাগুলি কাছারি ঘাট থেকে পাওয়া যায়। এছাড়াও একটি ফেরি পরিষেবা রয়েছে যা সকাল সকাল 7 টা থেকে সন্ধ্যা 5 টা পর্যন্ত পাওয়া যায়।

শহর গুয়াহাটি থেকে খুব দূরে  নয় তবে খুব কাছাকাছিও নয়, বিশাল ব্রহ্মপুত্র নদীতে অবস্থিত।

কলকাতা থেকে গৌহাটি আস্তে গেলে —

 ১)হাওড়া থেকে ৩ টা  ৫০মিনিটে (১২৩৪৫)আপ সরাইঘাট এক্সপ্রেস ছেড়ে পরেরদিন সকাল ৯ টা ৩৫ মিনিটে গৌহাটি পৌঁছায়।

২) বিকেল ৫ টা  ৩৫ মিনিটে ছাড়ে (১৫৯৫৯) কামরূপ এক্সপ্রেস

৩) শিয়ালদা স্টেশন থেকে সকাল  ৬টা  ৩৫ মিনিটে ছাড়ে (১৫৬৫৭) কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা এক্সপ্রেস আর গৌহাটি পৌঁছায় ভোর ৪ টায় ।

৪) রাট ৯তা ৪০ মিনিটে ছাড়ে গরিব রথ (১২৫১৭) সপ্তাহে দু দিন ( বৃহস্পতিবার ও রবিবার )

৫) প্রতি বুধবার রাত ৯তা ৪০ মিনিটে ছাড়ে কলকাতা ডিব্রুগড় এক্সপ্রেস (১২৫২৫ )

Peacock Island or Umananda Temple ( Almost Unknown Place for Tourist Interest )

Peacock Island or Umananda Island is the smallest river island in the midst of river Brahmaputra flowing through the city of Guwahati in Assam, a state in northeast India. The British named the island as Peacock Island for its structure.

Umananda Temple is a late 17th century Shiva Temple located at Peacock island in middle of river Brahmaputra, just off Guwahati. It is known as smallest inhabited Riverine Island in the world. Country boats that are available on the bank of Brahmaputra take the visitors to the island.

one who visit Guwahati, will never forget to visit this temple. Umananda Temple is situated on Peacock Island in the middle of Brahmaputra River. Since the temple is at the center of River Brahmaputra, it can be accessed only on ferries or motor launches. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the sculptures and engravings depict other gods namely Surya, Ganesh and Devi. The walls of the temple are wonderfully engraved and sculpted, which stand proof of the artisanship of the people of the past.

To reach the umananda temple, one has to cross the river in a boat. It can be reach from Guwahati and North Guwahati by ferries and steamers. These boat services are available from the Kachari ghat. There is also a ferry service that is available from 7 am in the morning to 5 pm in the evening.

Not very far from Guwahati is city but not too close either, perched on the gigantic Brahmaputra River.

From Kolkata to Guwahati—

1) By Saraighat Express (12345), arriving at Guwahati the in the  next morning at 9.35 am from Howrah.

2) Departure at 5.35 pm, Kamrup Express (15959)

3) Departure at 6.35 a.m., Kanchenjunga Express (15657) from Sealdah Station.

4) At night 9.40p.m leave Garib Rath (12517) two days a week (Thursday and Sunday).

5) Departure from Kolkata Dibrugarh Express (122027) every Wednesday night at 9.40p.m.
